Installation. Save and unpack the DemoHSA30.zip file to your hard drive. To install the HSA Software - DEMO run setup.exe. Follow the installation instructions.
System
Requirements. Microsoft® Windows
95/98/2000/XP/NT, 15 MB of hard drive space.
HSA Software, Version 3.0 runs
with Microsoft®
Access 2000 or later edition. However, if
you do not have Microsoft®
Access, upon your request we will send you an installation disk that contains
the HSA Software DEMO with Runtime Access 2000, which allows to run the program
without the full version of the Microsoft®
Access.
Starting HSA Software.
Run the HSA Software Demo from the Start Menu or double-click the HSA Demo 3.0
icon.
Running HSA Software.
On the HSA Software Main Menu click the “Existing Location” button.
Then select “100test” from the dialog box and click “Open”.
The Location Information window
will be displayed with the data for the selected location file.
Press “Enter Accident Data” button to review the data for the location “100test” (the data has already been entered). You can change some of the data, and see how it would affect the output forms and Collision Diagrams.
Use
buttons on the right side of the Location
Information window to open Details of
Accident History Form, Accident
Summary Sheet, Charts, Highway
Safety
Investigation
Report, and Safety Benefits Evaluation Form (press F1 for help on these forms).
Open
Accident Rate Calculations form.
Click “Calculate” button. To
calculate accident rate for the specific intersection set up the filter for this
intersection first (using a Key Number),
then open the Accident Rate Calculations
form. Select the “Intersection”
option and change AADT data to the number of entering vehicles for each
intersection approach. When you use
different filters, make sure that you make necessary changes in the accident
rate formula (you can change AADT, time period, and segment length). The
segment length can be expressed in miles or kilometers - the units
are selected on the Location
Information window.
Click the “Filtering Data” button. Check “Selected Accidents” and set Key Number = 1. Type “Maple Avenue Intersection” in the Message box (Key Number =2 for Chestnut Road) and click “OK”.
Press
the “Collision Diagram” button. Select
one of the options: “4-legged intersection”, “T-intersection”,
“Segment”, or “Custom”. To
prepare a Diagram for a custom layout, an image file displaying roadway geometry
should be designed (it can show several intersections, driveways, and other
features) . After the
Diagram is displayed, click “Edit”. You can move, rotate, and copy accident
symbols using buttons on the lower task bar.
If a Key Number is not specified, the Collision Diagram will display all
accidents. Press F1 for Help.
All
forms (except Accident Data Entry Form) will use data for the selected filter(s)
or all accidents.
Printing the output data forms.
Before printing the forms click “Print
Preview” at the Form menu on the window tool bar.
Make sure that a form fits to the page.
If not, click “Page Setup” to adjust page margins.
You can print out forms using letter size paper, or plot large-scale
forms and Collision Diagrams for
presentations.
Getting Help. For assistance press the “F1” button. The help file will open for the currently displayed form or
dialog box.
