Collision Diagram

New powerful features added to Collision Diagram in Version 3.0:

Save Diagram - Undo/Redo Changes - Rotate Symbols - Reduce Symbol Size

Version 3.0 update has been released that generates diagrams for left side driving countries

Collision Diagrams in the HSA Software can be generated for selected intersections or segments within study location.  You can choose an intersection layout from the preset road geometry types, such as 4-legged intersection, offset intersection, “T”-intersection, segment, or you can use an image file as a background.

When a long stretch of road is investigated, it is divided into smaller sections, and the Key Numbers (one- or two-digit numbers) are assigned to each section.  In order to create a Collision Diagram for the particular location, the corresponding Key Number(s) should be selected as a data filter.

Accidents are displayed as arrow combinations.  Number boxes represent corresponding accident records.  Accidents of the same type are grouped together to better emphasize accident clusters.  There is an option to display the total number of accidents for each diagram (just click "Total/All" button).  Traffic signals, "Stop" signs, and/or "Yield" signs may be added to the diagram.

After the diagram is displayed, it can be edited to better reflect existing conditions and accident locations.  Accident symbols can be moved to show precise location of the crashes (using on-screen arrow buttons or keyboard arrows), and rotated (new feature in Version 3.0).

You can rotate entire accident symbol, or one arrow against the other.  This new feature opens the door to using background images or aerial photographs with complex geometry, including ramps, curves, roundabouts, etc.  Symbols can also be copied to be displayed at different locations within one diagram, for example, some right-angle accidents could occur at the intersection, and others at the gas station driveway on the corner, etc.

Various accident categories, such as fatal, injury, wet road, or night time, multi-user accidents, and crashes involving trucks may be highlighted.  This feature allows to better visualize problem areas on the diagram.

A Collision Diagram is generated based on the accident data entered and filters selected.  It can be modified/edited in a few minutes.  Then the diagram may be printed out for the Traffic Investigation Report, or plotted in a large scale for presentations.

The new Version 3.0 allows to SAVE collision diagrams after editing.  The diagram is saved not as image, but as a sequence of editing commands.  Every editing step (moving, copying, rotating, etc.) is recorded.  You can save the current configuration of the diagram after editing, and it will be restored when you open the diagram again.  You can save different configurations under different names, all saved diagrams will be stored within active data file.

To save diagrams as images, you can print to file (using Adobe Acrobat), or use PrintScreen command and paste the screen image to a graphic program (like Paint or others).

Since every editing step is recorded, you can UNDO or REDO your editing commands by any selected number of steps, back or forward, or undo/redo all.  If you add new records or make data corrections, they will be reflected on the diagram, and you would not have to reopen the diagram and edit it from the beginning.  You can make these data changes while editing diagram.  Just minimize the diagram, open Data Entry form, make changes/additions.  Then close Data Entry form - data will be saved, maximize the diagram, and click undo or redo by one step (or any number of steps).  The changes will appear on the diagram.

When you open saved diagram, you can see a progress indicator.  All recorded editing steps are repeated on the screen.  You also have an option to open the diagram from the beginning and move step-by-step through your editing commands.  Same progress indicator appears when you undo/redo changes.

In Version 3.0 you can also reduce the size of accident symbols.  This feature may be helpful if you need to show more than one intersection on your diagram, or have complex roadway geometry.

Collision Diagrams for left side and right side driving can be included in one module for users with multi-national clients.
